Portlanders hold moment of silence on Burnside Bridge:
honoring the 5th anniversary of George Floyd's Death
Early, Wednesday morning the Kremlin announced that Putin would meet with Rashad Muhammad al-Alimi, the President of Yemen. According to a Telegram announcement by the Kremlin, the two leaders met to discuss to the deepening of economic, political and cultural ties.
The meeting would not last long, with President Muhammad al-Alimi being seen leaving the Kremlin only a couple hours after the meeting began.
These talks happened during a time of intense conflict for both countries; in Yemen the Houthis have recently escalated counter-attacks on IDF air-and-sea infrastructure, according to a Hamas telegram release obtained by United Vision News. These ports are used by Israel to carry out aerial attacks, and take in cargo necessary to carry-out its expansionistic war-goals.
In addition Russia has ramped up its drone-and-missile assaults on Kyiv, which has claimed the lives of dozens of civilians. These attacks being some of the most brutal seen so far during Russia's 3-year long attack on Ukraine.
Another aspect overshadowing these talks is the mounting economic aggression by the US. Trump's univseral tariffs have caused other nations to scramble to find new, more stable markets.
It is still unclear how these talks will affect the regional conflicts facing both countries, or how it will impact diplomacy between Russia and the US, which has recently soured .
One thing is clear however; Russia gaining more economic support could spell disaster for Ukraine, as Russia faces a desperate supply shortage in its years long invasion.
